House of Dosas

It has been a while since I have had a good dosa.  The last time I had one was at an Indian restaurant in Richmond by the name of Quilong – it has long been closed.

Before I begin, a dosa is an Indian crepe made of rice batter and black lentils and filled with different types of curries.  You can have plain dosa, vegetarian or non-vegetarian dosa.  My friends and I went on a Monday and the restaurant was packed (Monday all dosas are on special $5.99).

My friend introduced me to this restaurant as he knows that I am a big fan of Biryani. Although you cannot tell from its name, James Street Cafe offers African-Indian cusine.

The last time I was at this restaurant, it was known as Quest.

It is now West on Granville Street.  The number one noticeable thing is the more than impressive customer service. It made the dining experience very enjoyable. It’s difficult to find a restaurant that provides 6-star service like this.

I heard about this little restaurant for a very long time. I attempted to try this probably 5 occasions but failed to get a table.  It was either closed or has a very very long line-up.

If you want authentic Indian food, Tandoori Kona is the number 1 choice in Richmond. They offer mild, medium and hot on all dishes in that medium is already really burning your tongue (though very tasty)!

Kiriri Japanese Restaurant

Kiriri is a gem waiting to be discovered in the heart of Richmond. I am excited to see a restaurant of this caliber in this area. Previously it has always been some take-out style pizza or sushi place. When we were first seated, we were given 3 different menus; a raw menu, a cooked menu and a drink menu. It took some time to study before you can make up your mind.

DB Bistro Moderne - Country Pork Terrine "Grand-Père"

Country Pork Terrine "Grand-Père"

2551 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC V6K2E9

Pate & Terrine are always my favorite appy. This pork terrine was quite a big portion for one person. Great texture, meaty and flavorful however there was no bread coming with the dish, which is kind of odd for terrine.

I am not a big fan of pasta. Off the menu there were soup, salad and this appetizer. I picked the pasta because it comes with Dungeness crab legs. Thinking it would be the best value to make sure my money well-spent! I didn’t regret my choice. I almost wanted to finish the whole dish though I held myself only to finish half to leave room for entree and dessert. I can taste the freshness of the pasta, which was so soft but still chewy. However, the 2 bits of crab meat was plain and fishy.
